History – Timeline

1985 – Muskegon Pregnancy Services was established as a non-profit 501(c)(3) faith-based organization. – (crisis women’s pregnancy center), under the direction of Medical Director: Dr. Gustav Barkett and several other believers who formed the first Board of Directors.

1985 Initially located with Love INC. on Hall.

Services provided:

  • Pregnancy tests
  • Earn While You Learn program – prenatal and parent mentoring

Executive directors through the years:

1987 to 1993 – Deann Kiley
1993 to 1996 – Judy Spoelman
1996 to 2017– Priscilla Hinze

2007 – ADDED Ultrasound machine in 2007 courtesy of Knights of Columbus & Focus on the Family
2014 – Moved to Wells Ave in Current buildings – in late summer
2015 – ADDED – STD testing/treatment for both women & men
2017 – Executive Director to present– Deb Null
2018 – ADDED services:

  • Prevention education called Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) for youth groups & schools
  • Trained Staff and EDU volunteers to be “specialists”
  • Client classes – nutrition, labor & delivery
  • Photo gift for clients for baby bumps and family

2019 – Clinic offsite – Muskegon Covenant Academy (Grant)

  • Classes – Period of the Purple Cry Class

2020 – Changed LifePlan to RiseUP – (Real Inspiring Support for Uplifting Parents)

  • New Medical Director – Dr. Erica Sikkenga – OB/GYN
  • ADDED- Abortion Pill Reversal local hot-line for MPS Clients   

2021 – SRA Prevention Education 8-Session Classes at Public School –Fruitport Middle School

  • Capital Campaign for a second location in downtown Muskegon.

2022 – Opened medical center at 1275 Peck St. (2 doors down from old center/home on Peck).

  • Implemented the Focus Method from SperaVita (trained in Omaha, NE). Providing our pregnancy medical services at this location while continuing services such as parenting classes, support services, prevention education, and after-abortion care at the Wells location. 
  • Added a second ultrasound machine with a Focus On The Family Grant.
