Voting with Life in Mind

The U.S. is less than 40 days from the 2024 election, where the presidency and many other offices will be up for grabs. This is when registered voters can practice their civic duty and make a difference on a national level by voting with your values. It is now more important than ever to assess your values and vote accordingly. Muskegon Pregnancy Services cares about this issue because life, although it is primarily a heart issue, it is often found center stage in politics. Our mission and values shape what we believe and practice, and it is important that your own personal mission and values do too.

Why does voting with your values matter?

Voting with our values means knowing what we value, and taking the time to know what candidates value. Voting with your values is vital for Christians because it is an impactful way that we can serve the Lord faithfully. One central value for us all to consider this election season is life. First, we must know what God and His Word say about life, but also what the candidates say, particularly what they say about abortion. Check Your Heart

One risky mindset that many Christians fall into today is to vote for the “lesser of two evils”. However, this mindset can be harmful. It comes from a skewed perspective that accepts evil as an option in our government. In reality, Christians cannot be willing to compromise how they cast their vote. Second, it disregards the goodness of God to put leaders in places of authority. Scripture tells us that all authority is in authority only because God has allowed it. They are meant to honor God in their role, but keep in mind every candidate will be an imperfect choice. Lastly, and most importantly, God is in control no matter which way an election lands.

Prayer Matters

At the forefront of all of our voting and election research must be prayer. In order to align our hearts with truth and understanding, we must be in conversation with the Creator of truth. We also can only see the truth reach our nation if we are coming together in prayer. We are bombarded with political advertisements and news stories, but how can we be sure we know what is true? Pray for discernment, and find several perspectives. Take the time to know if they are speaking truth or lies by finding reputable websites and sources like the one above.

This election season, take the time to be a Christ-centered voter with life in mind.
